Biography

Roberto Fresco is the Titular Organist at the Santa Mar├şa la Real de la Almudena Cathedral in Madrid and the professor of organ at the Centro Superior de Ense├▒anza Musical Katarina Gurska, also in Madrid.

Born in Astorga, he started his education in music there and would continue this academic training at the Real Conservatoro Superior de M├║sica de Madrid. He studied at Hochschule f├╝r Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien with Michael Radulescu, to whom he owes many features of his musical thinking. However, it has been Montserrat Torrent the one to influence him most, not only over his performance, but also on questions directly linked to teaching, especially Spanish music.

His career as a concert performer and a professor has taken him through Europe, the USA, South America and the Philippines and he usually works in collaboration with soloists and vocal or instrument groups, dealing with repertoires which include six centuries of organ music. He has released several recordings that include early music as well as 20th century music. He has been the professor of harpsichord at the Conservatorio Superior de M├║sica de Castilla y Le├│n and at the Conservatorio Federico Moreno Torroba in Madrid. He has also been the professor of organ at the Conservatorio Profesional de M├║sicad de Palencia and the Real Conservatorio Superior de M├║sica de Madrid.

He is the founder and director of the Academia de ├ôrgano ÔÇťFray Joseph de EchevarriaÔÇŁ yearly held at the historic organs of Tierra de Campos, its aim being the promotion of the old Spanish organs and all the literature that has been written for them.
